Interview With Set
Tell us a little bit about the band Set
We're a rock/metal/punk group from Sudbury, On, Canada. We've been together for about 2 years.
You guys just released your new album “Comatose,” which you had your release party for on the fifteenth. What can you tell us about the new album?
So much hard work went in to getting this album done. It feels great that it's out there for people to listen to now. We've spent a lot of time perfecting the songs on the album.
There are 7 tracks on the album. We recorded in about 2 1/2 days in Napanee, ON at Sonic Pit Recording Studio. We recorded the album with Terry Benn. He also produced it for us. People can take a look at a couple of songs off of the new album "Comatose" on our facebook page (www.facebook.com/bandset) or purchase our album from our store at http://set.bigcartel.com
How was the release party?
The release party was great! We played to a packed house! We had a fantastic time, and couldn't asked for it to go any better.
You recently had the opportunity to play a show with the Ontario progressive metal group Protest The Hero, how’d the show go?
It was amazing! We played to a great crowd, and it opened a lot of doors for us. And, we also got to watch Protest the Hero live! (They killed it, as usual.)
You take a DIY approach to your music, which is something more and more bands have the chance to do with today’s technology. Tell us a little about your do it yourself approach.
Well, we pretty much do everything ourselves. We make our own T-Shirts, Posters, Stickers, business cards, pretty much everything! It can be a little time-consuming, but in the end it's all worth it.
Do you feel that the digital age of music and the advancement of technology has made being in a band easier or harder for todays musicians?
It's definitely a bit of both. I mean, there's a worldwide market out there for almost everyone to take advantage of. All you have to do is throw a video on Youtube, and anyone with internet can watch it. It's also harder for the same reasons. Although there is a worldwide market out there, it is very oversaturated with other people trying to get noticed, just like you.
What do you guys think of the Sudbury metal scene?
The scene here is pretty good. We have a lot of great established bands roll through here, so there is definitely some awesome opportunities for the local bands to play.
What are Set’s plans for 2013?
We'll be doing some touring in April, around Southern Ontario. We have some dates in Kitchener, Toronto, London, Barrie, Kingston and waiting on confirmation on a few more. We'll also be working on new material and playing as many shows as we can! We're basically going to try and take over the planet.
